Missions

Between You and I (B.U.I) is a youth-led nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2018 and driven by one goal: to bring the joy and power of music to those in need. We are dedicated to creating music-sharing community service opportunities that uplift and enrich our world. Through partnerships with local institutions and the dedication of over 500+ volunteers, we aim to provide underserved communities with access to music education, instruments, and live performances. Our mission is to empower individuals through music while fostering creativity, emotional expression, and a sense of belonging. Together, we harmonize the world, one note at a time.

Welcome to Between You and I

I'm Steven Zhao, and it's my honor to serve as the president of a community that has truly shaped who I am.

Since I joined BUI in 10th grade, the past two years have been centered around compassion, creativity, and connection. I've experienced firsthand how kindness — shared and expressed through music, art and service — can make a meaningful impact on both ourselves and the communities around us.

At BUI, we believe in leading with heart. This year, my hope is to strengthen the bonds between our members, expand on our community service efforts, and continue helping every student recognize the power we all have to take initiative, lead a cause you believe in, and change the world as we know it.
